The Telstra Road to Discovery launched nationally last night with a huge line-up of live music at iconic Sydney venue The Basement, featuring big name Australian artists Tim Rogers (You Am I), Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi, The Verses), Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Charles Jenkins (Ice-cream Hands) and Karl Broadie and former winners Tenielle (WA), Luke Webb (NSW), Dave Garnham (NT) and Harry Hookey (VIC)
Treating the primarily industry crowd to a series of original performances and duets, the night was a celebration of music collaboration and mentorship. It also marked the opening of entries nationally around the country for this year’s Telstra Road to Discovery music development program.
Building on eight successful years as the Telstra Road to Tamworth, Telstra also announced the program’s name has changed to reflect a new era that opens it up to artists from a wider range of music genres, from blues and roots, to folk and country.
"The Telstra Road to Discovery program provides Independent performers and songwriters the opportunity to further develop their talents. Such support for the next generation of emerging Australian musicians is vital. Increasing the role of mentorship from music industry professionals into the program provides stronger connections for young musicians to learn from those who have already travelled this road and Mushroom Marketing is proud to be a part of this process.” Michael Gudinski – Chairman, Mushroom Group of Companies
