Well, what an action packed day at Coogee Beach on Tuesday this week! The Javelin Australia team helped to orchestrate the very first cross-code, trans-Tasman battle with a few of the V8 Aussie drivers challenging some of the V8 Kiwi drivers to an Aussie summer tradition - beach cricket!
The concept came ahead of the final V8 Supercars race of the Championship for 2011 - the Sydney Telstra 500. It was a chance for the drivers to mingle ahead of track time and a great way to welcome in the start of summer, all thanks to the naming sponsors of both the V8 Supercars Championship and the final race of the year, Telstra.
Both teams employed a secret weapon for the occasion - for the Aussies, it came in the form of former Aussie cricketing great, Mark Waugh. Not to be outdone, the Kiwis brought on one of New Zealand's best all-rounders, Chris Cairns.
The competitive nature was running at an all time high and both teams looked sharp - could there be possible late inclusions into the test teams over the summer of cricket...?
For the record, the Kiwis won by 1 run - the closest of margins! All in all, a great day on the beach, plenty of fun and a fantastic way to kick off the build up to the Sydney Telstra 500!
Good luck to all teams competing this weekend!
