The launch of the Medibank Community Fund on Channel 9’s Today Show was an eventful morning of breakfast television featuring appearances by Olympic gold medallists Steve Bradbury and Lydia Lassila, The Wiggle’s Dorothy The Dinosaur, medal winning walking husband and wife couple Claire and Jared Tallent and Medibank Managing Director, George Savvides.

Javelin coordinated the morning which was hosted on the ice of Medibank Icehouse in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct and designed to launch Medibank’s $3 million investment in helping to create a healthier Australia.

50% of Australian Adults are overweight or obese and this is predicted to increase to two thirds in the next 10 years. The fund aims to help address this issue is four ways:

  • Getting people moving – through partnerships with the Heart Foundation and Healthy Parks Healthy People
  • Promoting healthier eating and community connectedness – by supporting local initiatives with Community Grants
  • Supporting disadvantaged young Australians in their health studies – through partnerships with The Smith Family and Yalari
  • Helping people in times of need with response to emergency relief and research donations.

But by far the highlight of the morning was a padded up Steve Jacobs getting in goal to help promote the ‘Pucks For Bucks” Ice Hockey Supporting Flood Relief at the same venue on Feb 11.
